Google bans Zoom for its employees to be used on their work laptops. Let’s get to know the reasons.
Zoom is an American remote conferencing application that provides a remote conferencing service that combines video conferencing, online meetings, chat, and mobile collaboration, etc.
Zoom has gained much popularity among professionals during Coronavirus Pandemic while also experiencing harsh criticism over security issues.
Google Banned Zoom On Corporate Laptops
Google has finally decided to ban the use of Zoom for its employees. As reported by BuzzFeed, Google sent an email to its employees in the last week explaining security concerns with Zoom. And have warned that the Zoom app will stop working on their work laptops starting this week. Although, they can keep using Zoom through a web browser or via mobile for connecting with their people.
The email has been sent to the employees having the Zoom app installed on their work laptops.
Google’s spokesperson Jose Castaneda has also told Buzzfeed News that they had a policy long back that does not allow employees to use unapproved apps for work.
Zoom is a Competitor of Google’s Meet App
Not only Google, but NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX Company has already banned employees from using Zoom, mentioning significant privacy and security concerns with Zoom.
Investigations On Zoom Security Issues
Investigations on the Zoom app has revealed that for iPhone and iPad users, Zoom sent data about the devices to Facebook. It included people who didn’t even have a Facebook account. Zoom stopped doing so a day later. Also, Zoom is lacking end-to-end encryption for the conferences.
Eric S Yuan, CEO of Zoom has stated they will be taking required actions to control the security issues. Also, they will not be launching any new features for the next 90 days, solving security and privacy issues will remain the priority.
